Chandi ka bhav Bhubaneswar mein: for tarakasi (filigree) the day's rate values only the silver; most of the price is the handwork. Ask the shop for the net silver weight and purity separately from the making charge, and buy from showrooms or state handicraft outlets that give a proper GST bill.
Odisha is known for silver filigree (tarakasi), made mainly in Cuttack, about 30 km from Bhubaneswar: fine silver wire is twisted and soldered into jewellery, ornaments and decorative pieces. Bhubaneswar’s showrooms and state handicraft outlets sell filigree alongside silver coins and 925 jewellery.
Filigree is priced on its silver weight plus a making charge that reflects the handwork, so it costs more per gram than plain silver. Ask for the silver purity and net weight on the bill.
Showrooms in the city and the state's handicraft outlets sell Cuttack filigree with a GST bill. Ask for the silver purity, the net weight and the making charge on the bill.
Each piece is made by hand from fine wire, which takes many hours, so the making charge is a large part of the price. The silver itself is valued at the day’s rate for its purity.
Usually very close; GST is 3% everywhere, and gaps come from transport, insurance and the shop’s margin.
Bhavflow’s silver rate is a national benchmark for 999 fine silver (international price, USD–INR, import duty and an estimated domestic premium calibrated to IBJA benchmark rates), excluding GST. Jewellers and retail sites usually quote above this benchmark (making, margin, local premium), and 3% GST is added on the bill. Bhavflow does not show a retail price, because it differs from shop to shop.
