Date & muhuratCoin vs jewellery vs digitalHallmark & HUIDBill checklistFinal checklistFAQ📅 Dhanteras 2026 date aur muhurat
Dhanteras is the one day of the year when almost every Indian household thinks about gold at the same time: shops are packed, families compare designs on WhatsApp, and everyone has an opinion on whether to buy a coin, a chain, or “just do it online.” 🪔
Dhanteras 2026 falls on Friday, 6 November 2026. The Trayodashi tithi begins around 10:30 AM on 6 November and ends around 10:47 AM on 7 November, which is why some people get confused about the date. Because Trayodashi is running at sunset on 6 November, the festival is observed that day.
Muhurat shifts city by city, since it is calculated from local sunrise and sunset — Mumbai's window is about 35 minutes later than Delhi's, Kolkata's earlier. Cross-check your city on a local panchang.
🪙 Coin vs jewellery vs digital gold — kya khareedein?
There is no single right answer, but each option behaves very differently once you own it.
Coin / bar
Closest to pure metal. Lowest add-on cost, easiest to value, but resale usually happens at the metal rate only.
Best for: Saving, gifting, small budgets
Jewellery
You pay for craft and design. Making charges of 8–25% are deducted again at resale, along with stone value and melting loss.
Best for: Wearing, weddings, family occasions
Digital gold
A claim on a vault, not metal in your hand. Easy for small monthly amounts; charges and lock-in differ by platform.
Best for: Small, regular amounts
A simple way to think about it: jewellery is a product with craft built in, so you pay for the craft twice — once at purchase, and again as a deduction when you sell. Coins and bars sit much closer to the metal itself. Many families mix the three: a coin for the ritual, jewellery for the occasion that matters, something small and systematic for the rest of the year.
🔍 BIS hallmark aur HUID kaise check karein
Hallmarking became mandatory in June 2021, and since 1 April 2023 gold jewellery sold in India must carry a BIS hallmark with a six-character alphanumeric HUID (Hallmarking Unique ID). Look for three things on the piece or its tag: the BIS triangle logo, the purity code (22K916 for 22 carat, 18K750 for 18 carat, 24K999 for 24 carat), and the six-character HUID.
Then verify it yourself, free of cost, on the BIS CARE app (Android and iOS): open the app → tap Verify HUID → type the six characters → the app shows the purity, the jeweller and the registration details. If the HUID does not exist, or the purity does not match the tag, do not complete the purchase. It takes two minutes and it is the single best anti-fraud check you have.

FAQ
1. Dhanteras 2026 kis din hai — 6 ya 7 November?
6 November 2026, Friday. Trayodashi tithi runs into the morning of 7 November, which creates the confusion, but the tithi is present at sunset on 6 November, so Dhanteras is observed that day. The main puja window is Pradosh kaal in the evening.
2. Kya Dhanteras par sirf gold hi khareedna chahiye?
No. People also buy silver, brass or steel utensils, and many families buy something small like a coin. There is no rule that the purchase must be large — the ritual matters more than the amount.
3. Digital gold lena chahiye ya physical?
They solve different problems. Physical gold is something you hold, gift and wear; digital gold is easier for small regular amounts but is a claim on a vault and comes with that platform's terms. Read the charges and redemption rules before you start.
4. Hallmark ke bina gold khareed sakte hain?
Hallmarking is mandatory for gold jewellery sold in India, so a piece without a hallmark and HUID should raise a question. If the seller cannot show it, ask why — and consider buying elsewhere.
