Bhavflow publishes one national indicative rate. A Lucknow jeweller’s board rate can be slightly higher or lower because of local association or bullion-dealer rates, transport and insurance costs, and the shop’s own margin; making charges and 3% GST come on top.
City jewellers are organised in local sarafa associations, such as the Lucknow Mahanagar Sarafa Association, and many shops quote rates per 10 grams, as is usual in North India.
Silver is bought in large quantities in Lucknow around Dhanteras, often as coins and utensils. For silver, see Bhavflow’s silver rate page.
Lucknow’s sarafa trade still revolves around Chowk. Jewellery shops line the road just inside the Gol Darwaza, while the karkhanas (workshops) that roll gold and silver into sheets and wire sit in the bylanes behind it, and karigars from Bengal are much in demand there. Aminabad, Gadbad Jhala, Alambagh and Hazratganj are the other main jewellery areas.
Silver matters almost as much as gold here. On Dhanteras, coins, utensils and puja items sell in large quantities and shops in Chowk, Aminabad and Alambagh stay open far into the night; before Karva Chauth, silver jewellery and karwas sell alongside light gold pieces. Akshaya Tritiya, Eid and the winter lagan season are the other busy times. With prices high, many Lucknow families now remodel or exchange old jewellery instead of buying new.
This page has no official Lucknow board rate. City jewellers quote 24K and 22K per 10 grams, so compare their quote with the per-10-gram national indicative rate above, then add making charges and 3% GST.
Lucknow’s traditional sarafa (jewellery) market is in the historic Chowk, just inside the Gol Darwaza. Aminabad and Hazratganj also have many jewellers and showrooms.
Lucknow’s traditional sarafa market is in the historic Chowk, near the Gol Darwaza, known for skilled local karigars who can make almost any design to order. Aminabad and Hazratganj have family jewellers and branches of national chains. Shops usually quote rates per 10 grams, as is common in North India.
BIS-recognised Assaying & Hallmarking Centres operate in Lucknow, including in the Chowk area. Gold jewellery should carry the BIS logo, its purity and a 6-digit alphanumeric HUID; verify the HUID in the BIS CARE app. Any recognised centre will also test a consumer’s jewellery for a fee, which is useful for older family pieces.
Dhanteras and Diwali are the busiest days, with heavy buying of silver coins and utensils as well as gold. Akshaya Tritiya and the lagan (wedding) season also bring crowds to Chowk and Aminabad.
If you order a design from a karigar, agree on the purity, the expected weight, making charges and the delivery date in writing, and make sure the finished piece is hallmarked with a HUID before you take it. Add 3% GST, keep the invoice, and ask what deduction the shop applies on buyback or exchange.
More detail on purity and pricing: 22 carat gold rate and price guide.
Usually per 10 grams. Divide by 10 to compare with a per-gram rate; Bhavflow shows both.
Check the purity marked on the coin (999 for fine silver), weigh it, and ask whether the price per gram includes making charges. BIS hallmarking for silver is voluntary, so a HUID is a plus, not a guarantee every coin will have.
Only for larger bills: under the Income-tax rules a jeweller must take your PAN for a purchase of jewellery or bullion above 2 lakh rupees, and a jeweller cannot accept 2 lakh rupees or more in cash in one transaction. These rules are the same across India.
Remodelling reuses your own gold, so you pay making charges and, for any extra gold, the day’s rate for its purity; a little weight can be lost in melting. Ask for the weight before and after, the purity of the new piece and a HUID hallmark, in writing.
Sone ka bhav aaj, today’s gold rate, is at the top of this page: Bhavflow’s national indicative rate for 22K, 24K and 18K gold per 10 grams and per gram, and chandi ka bhav aaj ka (today’s silver rate) per kg, all excluding GST and making charges. The IBJA benchmark (AM and PM) is shown next to it for comparison.
No. Bhavflow publishes one national indicative rate, calculated from international prices, and shows it on every city page. Jewellers in Lucknow may quote slightly different rates because of local association or bullion-dealer rates, transport and insurance costs and their own margins, and they add making charges and 3% GST.
