Why prices in Kochi can differ

Bhavflow publishes one national indicative rate. A Kochi jeweller’s board rate can be slightly higher or lower because of local association or bullion-dealer rates, transport and insurance costs, and the shop’s own margin; making charges and 3% GST come on top.

Most Kerala jewellers follow the daily board rate of the All Kerala Gold & Silver Merchants Association (AKGSMA), quoted per gram and per pavan (8 grams); it is shown on this page next to Bhavflow’s national rate.

Where to buy gold in Kochi

Kochi, Kerala’s commercial capital, has its biggest jewellery showrooms on MG Road and around Broadway and Market Road in Ernakulam, many of them branches of Kerala-based chains. Kerala households buy a large share of India’s gold jewellery, especially for weddings.

MG Road, Ernakulam
Large multi-storey showrooms of Kerala and national chains, with wide bridal collections.
Broadway and Market Road
The older commercial area of Ernakulam, with long-established jewellers and smaller shops.

Before you buy: hallmark, HUID and making charges

  • Check the BIS hallmark on every piece: the BIS logo, the purity grade (for example 22K916 or 18K750) and a 6-digit HUID. Since 1 April 2023, registered jewellers may only sell hallmarked gold jewellery that carries a HUID (small items under 2 g and kundan, polki and jadau pieces are exempt).
  • Verify the HUID in the BIS CARE app (Verify HUID): it shows the purity, the type of article and the jeweller’s registration, which should match your bill.
  • Making charges vary widely. As general guidance, machine-made chains and plain bangles are often in the range of about 3–10% of the gold value, while handcrafted, temple, antique or filigree work commonly runs 12–25% or more; some jewellers charge a flat amount per gram instead. Ask for the charge in writing and compare shops.
  • 3% GST is charged on the jewellery bill. Ask for a GST invoice that lists net weight, purity, rate per gram, making charges, HUID and tax separately.
  • Ask about buyback and exchange terms before you buy: most jewellers pay the day’s rate for the tested purity minus a deduction.

Gold rate in Kochi: FAQ

Why does the Kochi board rate differ from Bhavflow’s?

The AKGSMA board rate is set by the association from the local bullion market; Bhavflow calculates one national indicative rate from international prices, USD–INR, import duty and an estimated premium. Both exclude making charges; compare like with like.

What is one pavan in grams?

Eight grams. Kerala jewellers often quote 22K per pavan; the weight table shows the 8-gram price at Bhavflow’s rate.

Kochi mein sone ka bhav aaj kya hai? (gold rate today in Kochi)

Sone ka bhav aaj, today’s gold rate, is at the top of this page: Bhavflow’s national indicative rate for 22K, 24K and 18K gold per 10 grams and per gram, and chandi ka bhav aaj ka (today’s silver rate) per kg, all excluding GST and making charges. The local association board rate is shown next to it, with its date and a link to the source.

Does Bhavflow show a Kochi-specific gold rate?

No. Bhavflow publishes one national indicative rate, calculated from international prices, and shows it on every city page. Jewellers in Kochi may quote slightly different rates because of local association or bullion-dealer rates, transport and insurance costs and their own margins, and they add making charges and 3% GST.
