Bhavflow publishes one national indicative rate. A Mumbai jeweller’s board rate can be slightly higher or lower because of local association or bullion-dealer rates, transport and insurance costs, and the shop’s own margin; making charges and 3% GST come on top.
Because bullion is traded in Mumbai, local jewellers’ rates tend to sit close to IBJA benchmarks. IBJA publishes rates twice a day, and many jewellers revise their board rate during the day as international prices move.
Bhavflow calibrates its estimated domestic premium against IBJA benchmark rates, but it calculates its own figure, so it can still differ from a Mumbai jeweller on any given day.
Mumbai is the centre of India's bullion trade. The India Bullion and Jewellers Association (IBJA), whose benchmark rates are widely quoted, is based here, and Zaveri Bazaar in Kalbadevi is the country's best-known wholesale gold market.
Mumbai is the hub of India’s bullion trade. Zaveri Bazaar in Kalbadevi, more than a century old, packs bullion dealers, refiners, wholesalers and retail jewellers into a few crowded lanes, and the India Bullion and Jewellers Association (IBJA), whose benchmark rates are widely quoted, is based in the city. Dadar, Girgaon and the suburbs have long-established family jewellers and chain showrooms.
Many BIS-recognised Assaying & Hallmarking Centres are located around Zaveri Bazaar and Kalbadevi, close to where jewellery is made and traded. Each hallmarked piece should carry the BIS logo, its purity grade and a 6-digit alphanumeric HUID. Buyers can also take jewellery to any recognised centre for a paid purity test; the official list is on the BIS website.
Gudi Padwa, Akshaya Tritiya, Dussehra and Dhanteras are the traditional gold-buying days in Maharashtra, and the wedding season adds steady demand. Many families buy at least a small coin or piece on these days, even when prices are high.
Because rates can change during the day, ask which rate the shop is using and when it was set. In Zaveri Bazaar, compare making charges across a few shops, insist on a proper GST invoice with 3% GST shown separately, verify the HUID in the BIS CARE app, and ask how much the shop deducts on buyback or exchange.

IBJA publishes benchmark rates (excluding GST) for several purities twice a day, compiled from bullion dealers. Bhavflow calculates its rate from international spot prices, USD–INR, import duty and an estimated premium calibrated to IBJA, so the two are close but not identical.
The gold rate itself is similar across Mumbai. Wholesale-oriented shops may offer lower making charges, so compare the full bill: weight × rate, plus making charges, plus 3% GST, and check the HUID.
Sone ka bhav aaj, today’s gold rate, is at the top of this page: Bhavflow’s national indicative rate for 22K, 24K and 18K gold per 10 grams and per gram, and chandi ka bhav aaj ka (today’s silver rate) per kg, all excluding GST and making charges. The IBJA benchmark (AM and PM) is shown next to it for comparison.
No. Bhavflow publishes one national indicative rate, calculated from international prices, and shows it on every city page. Jewellers in Mumbai may quote slightly different rates because of local association or bullion-dealer rates, transport and insurance costs and their own margins, and they add making charges and 3% GST.
