Charts by TradingView

Why the 1-year chart peaks in late January 2026: global silver hit a record of about $121 an ounce on 29 January 2026 and fell sharply the next day. Indian prices followed (MCX silver futures touched ₹4,20,048 per kg). Bhavflow’s chart uses one rate per day, excluding GST, so its peak sits slightly below those intraday highs.

Purity math

999 silver today: ₹1,80,249 per kg. Sterling silver (925) holds 92.5% silver, so the silver in 1 kg of 925 is worth about ₹1,66,731 at today’s rate, before making charges and GST.

How the silver rate is calculated

Bhavflow takes the international spot price of silver (XAG) in US dollars, converts it to rupees at the day’s USD–INR rate, and adds Indian import duty and an estimated domestic market premium calibrated to IBJA benchmark rates. Today’s inputs are listed under “What moves this rate”.

Buying silver: what to check

  • Check the purity mark: 999 for fine silver bars and coins, 925 for sterling jewellery. Since 1 September 2025 BIS offers HUID-based hallmarking for silver on a voluntary basis: a hallmarked piece shows the BIS mark, the word SILVER, the purity grade and a 6-digit HUID you can verify in the BIS CARE app.
  • Silver is sold by weight. For anklets, utensils and other heavier items, ask for the net silver weight, excluding stones, lac or other fillings.
  • Making charges on silver jewellery are often quoted per gram or as a percentage; on intricate pieces they can be a large share of the price compared with the metal value. 3% GST applies.

Silver rate: FAQ

What is the silver rate today per kg?

The card at the top of this page shows Bhavflow’s indicative national rate for 999 fine silver per kg and per 10 grams, updated about every 30 minutes. It excludes 3% GST and making charges.

Why does the silver price move more than gold?

Silver is a smaller market and a large share of its demand is industrial (electronics, solar panels), so its price usually swings more in percentage terms than gold. India also imports most of its silver, so the rupee matters too.

What is the difference between 999 and 925 silver?

999 (fine silver) is 99.9% pure and is used for bars, coins and many puja articles. 925 (sterling silver) is 92.5% silver mixed with copper for strength and is common in jewellery. The metal in a 925 piece is worth roughly 92.5% of the fine-silver rate, before making charges.

Why do jewellers and shopping sites quote a higher silver price than Bhavflow?

Bhavflow’s silver rate is a national benchmark for 999 fine silver (international price, USD–INR, import duty and an estimated domestic premium calibrated to IBJA benchmark rates), excluding GST. Jewellers and retail sites usually quote above this benchmark (making, margin, local premium), and 3% GST is added on the bill. Bhavflow does not show a retail price, because it differs from shop to shop.

Is hallmarking mandatory for silver?

No, it is voluntary. BIS introduced HUID-based hallmarking for silver jewellery and articles from 1 September 2025 (IS 2112:2025). A hallmarked piece carries the BIS mark, the word SILVER, its purity grade and a 6-digit HUID that you can verify in the BIS CARE app.
