Bhavflow publishes one national indicative rate. A Chandigarh jeweller’s board rate can be slightly higher or lower because of local association or bullion-dealer rates, transport and insurance costs, and the shop’s own margin; making charges and 3% GST come on top.
Chandigarh is a Union Territory, but GST on gold is the same 3% as in Punjab and Haryana, so price differences across the Tricity come from margins and making charges rather than tax.
As in most of North India, jewellers usually quote rates per 10 grams, and heavy wedding sets make making charges a large part of the bill.
Chandigarh’s jewellers are spread across the planned city’s sector markets, with Sector 17 as the main commercial centre, and serve buyers from across the Tricity (Mohali and Panchkula) and nearby Punjab and Haryana.

BIS-recognised Assaying & Hallmarking Centres operate in Chandigarh, and BIS lists them with addresses on its website. Look for the BIS logo, the purity and a 6-digit alphanumeric HUID on every gold piece and verify the HUID in the BIS CARE app. Any recognised centre will also test a consumer’s jewellery for a fee and issue a report.
Dhanteras, Diwali and Karva Chauth are big jewellery occasions in the Tricity, and the winter wedding season brings large bridal orders. Akshaya Tritiya is another popular day for buying gold.
Chandigarh, Punjab and Haryana all charge the same 3% GST on jewellery, so compare making charges and buyback terms between shops rather than looking for a tax difference. Heavy wedding sets make making charges a large part of the bill, so ask for them in writing, verify each piece’s HUID, and keep the GST invoice for future resale or exchange.

Not because of tax: GST is the same 3%. Compare making charges and buyback terms between shops instead.
Enter the 6-digit HUID in the BIS CARE app’s Verify HUID feature. It shows the purity, the type of article and the jeweller’s registration, which should match your bill.
